Debunking Top Network Marketing Myths

By Al Keranen

Say the phrase “network marketing” at a dinner party when you’re surrounded by people who do not know how the industry truly works and you’ll likely have made the room very quiet very quickly. There are tons of myths about network marketing that people believe and that need to be debunked.

MLM is a pyramid scheme

This is, by far, the biggest myth of all, that network marketing, also known as MLM, is a pyramid scheme. This myth is entirely untrue. Pyramid schemes exist to take money from people and nothing more. Network marketing is a business model that compensates distributers for services, or products, that they sell. It allows you to earn money yourself and to foster new network marketing hopefuls, getting compensated when they do well also.

Network marketing doesn’t work.

Those who id doesn’t work for generally do not put in the type of effort that is necessary to actually earn money from this business model. They believe that simply by signing up they’re going to earn the money they’re looking for. This is very untrue. Network marketing does work, but as with anything in life, you have to be committed to making it work in order to reach your goals.

It’s a great way to get rich quick!

It is true that there are many successful network marketers who have earned more money than they need in a lifetime. This, however, is not what the average person earns. With network marketing, you get out of it what you put in, and most people earn enough to live a bit more comfortably than they were before. You can earn a great deal of income if you are a hard worker and have dedication towards this business model, but it’s not something that happens overnight.

Everyone can do network marketing

This is perhaps one of the most untrue statements of all. Network marketing simply isn’t for everyone. If you don’t have the willingness to learn, a positive attitude, and a drive to succeed, MLM probably won’t do anything for you. It’s true that you do not need to have any training in business to become a successful network marketer, but you do need to have the drive and determination to learn what you need to learn and to work hard in order to succeed. It can and does work for thousands of people, but it’s not necessarily for everyone.
